Shawshank Redemption

"They say it has no memory. That's where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory." Shawshank redemption had a meaning, this meaning was a meaning of hope! Criminals went to shawshank, thinking where there life went wrong. Then they start to get hope, hope that they will soon one day be free and out of the prison walls. Andy and Red became the best of friends. Without eachother, neither of them would have been able to escape from Shawshank.

Andy Defresne is a man convicted of a crim he did not commit. What amazes me is he did not commit a crime and yet he is willing to not put up a fight and go to prison. Andy not once lost his cool. He was beaten, raped, and mentally harassed and he never once lost his cool. Andy was inspiration for every man in the prison. He gave them hope when he makes them feel like a free man in the prison.

Red is the "chief" of Shawshank. He is the man who can get whatever you need. I would love to find out how he has connection to people on the outside world. Red, even though he has been in the prison for a long time, managed to keep his cool the entire time. I think Andy gave Red hope and inspiration to stay alive and make it out of the prison. I feel Andy made Red realize that if he made it back into society he would be able to function in society.

Overall Rating: 8 out of 10

Shawshank is a movie I am willing to watch again. It was an enjoyable movie and in a way, gives you a sense of hope. Personally, I like movies with action and a little bit of romance. So, this movie wasn't in my category. For an independent film, this movie very wisely uses it rescources and made the best movie possible. Overall great film. You have to watch.

Simpson Movie

"Thhhhhe Siiimmppssoonnnsssss...... DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA!!!!!" The simpsons movie is a very funny movie. It incorprates idiotic stunts and phrases to make a comedy. The simpsons movie really went into christianity and almost mocked it. The movie was random sequences of clips that they seem to put together to make themselves a movie. The movie was great, the plot was interesting, and the ending was a typical simpsons film.

Homer is the father of the Simpsons family. But, is fatherly ways are about as bad as they can get. He dares his son to streak on a skateboard to the burger shack and back. But when he is caught, Homer does not take the blame and his son has to go to court for his immaturity. Also, Homer cares more for a pig then he does his family. Burt does not receive any love from Homer, but the pig gets all of Homer's love. He plays with him, feeds him, even cleans up his own droppings for him. Homer makes the whole movie very funny, but as a parent he is a zero.

Marge is the mother of the simpsons family. She is the brains of the family and will do whatever is right to fix the mistakes Homer causes. Marge supports her husband no matter what he does; even if it involves dooming everyone in Springfield. I give Marge big props for supporting her husband. The guy is an idiot and yet she still loves and supports him through his crazy ideas and stunts. Without Marge in the movie, Homer would have left Springfield to die.

Rating: 7 out of 10

The Simpsons movie at times were super funny and at others, very dull. It seems the makes of the movie concentrated all the funny parts into one or two sections and left every other sections of the movie to help the plot. The story line was pretty good. The only thing I did not like is the fact that a pigs manure contaminated a clean lake so bad that Springfield was held in quarantine. Also, I didn't appreciate how much they bashed christianity. I tried my best not to let it affect my rating, but it's a movie and they took a risk and christians will not appreciate it. Overall funny movie and I would watch it again.

V for Vendetta

"Remeber, rebember, the fifth of November." The fifth of November is a major key point in the movie, along with many other minor symbols that make the movie what it is. V for Vendetta is a crafty movie which incorporates many hidden symbols to create a "secretive" movie. The meaning of the movie is a big part of the movie, but the battle sequences really made the movie that much more amazing.

V is the "mystery"  man of the movie. V is the primary hope of the people, even though they don't know it. V stands for the rights of the people against parliament. V is a man, who was tortured in his early years by the facist government. In his eyes, he wants revenge on the government for what they did to him and others like him. He knows that the rights of the people should be more important then a dictators power. He believes the government should be afraid of the people, not the other way around. V not only opens up EV's eyes, but the eyes of the people.

EV is a girl, along with V, has tortured by the facist government at a young age. The government took her parents away when she was young, ever sense she has been afraid to step out and be "free." Then she meets V and everything turns around for her. She is able to accept that the government needs to be stopped. She also is able to become "free" and not be afraid of the government. EV, in my eyes, represents the people in their journey of becoming "free" and non-fearful of the government.

V for Vendetta was a great movie. It made you think about the movie and what it truly meant. The directors were creative by incorporating real life events within the story, which in turn made their message come out stronger. This movie's meaning and action scenes made this an all around great movie for someone who is interested in thinking and watching fights. For me, this is my kindive movie.  "I have not come for what you hoped to do. I've come for what you did."

Graduate

"Are you here for an affair, sir?" The Graduate can be summed up in this one phrase right here. This movie lead me one direction and in the end brought me to a totally different ending. Graduate was a scandalous and sexual movie. Graduate was a classic back in the day and today is still a classic. It's sexual humor and "awkward" situations is what keeps this movie alive.

\

Benjamin is the awkward college student back from school for the summer. I find it funny how awkward he is when you think he would be very charismatic when it come to talking with ladies. The reason I say this is because it seems every women and girl find him very attractive and would go out of their way just to be with him. Benjamin was a character that I disliked and yet I liked him at the same time. I hated him because of the affair that he has. But, at the same time I respect Benjamin in that he is determined to get what he wants and will not take no for an answer.

Mrs. Robinson is one character that I hated and yet, I felt really bad for her. I hated her because what she did to her husband was unforgivable. But, at the same time, it is hard to judge her for wanting more in a relationship when her husband sleeps in a different bed and they are never together. Again, I can't blame her for wanting more; but, how she did it was wrong.

Elaine is byfar my favorite character in the movie. She is an innocent soul who is respectable to everyone. But, she is not afraid to listen to her heart when it comes to finding and staying with her true love. Elaine is also just that neighborhood sweetheart. It seems that everyone in their neighborhood highly respects her which is a great quality to have.

The Graduate is a must see movie. It is a movie that will make you laugh and keep you on your toes by making you want to see what the outcome of the situation will be. Also, I didn't mind how it had a twist in it had a different way of ending then you would have pictured. Another reason this is a good movie is the meaning behind. I would tell you the meaning, but I believe the meaning of the movie is different for each person.

Psycho

"I hope they are watching... they'll see. They'll see and they'll know, and they'll say, "Why, she wouldn't even harm a fly"..." Psycho was supposed to be this crazed, "psycho" type of a movie. I was not impressed. I am a guy who gets scared very easily; so, when my heart is not beating fast at all through the movie then it is not close to being a scary movie. Back in the 60's when horror movies were just being created, this may have been an horrifying movie. Now, in this day in time, it is only a brain twister in trying to figure out why Mrs. Bates killed everyone.

Marion Crane really starts the story out. She is the reason people are find out people are missing after they stay/ arrive at the Bate's motel. Marion Crane, for some reason, I didn't mind. Yes, she stole $40,000 dollars, but she did it with the intention that her and her boyfriend would be able to get married someday and live together. It is unfortunate though that she makes a crazed ,an get the hots for her and eventually that man kills her. Also, I find it funny how she works so hard to get the money and the Bates don't even take the money, or even find it.

Mr. Bates had be thrown for a loop. Sense the first time we met him in the movie, I was 100% sure that he was the killer. But, then his mother kills Marion and all those people...... I simply could not put my finger on why his mother killed them. At the end of the movie the question is answered, but until then I was soo confused. But, at first I really didn't mind Mr. Bates. I thougth he was just doing a good deed by taking care of his crazed mother and not putting her in a "mad house." Then you see how psycho he is by peeking into the shower and watching Marion Crane take a shower. I thought he had the hots for her and I was right. It is sad that he felt betrayed by his mother for going out with a different man. But, killing her boyfriend and his mother is a little drastic.

Lila Crane ole was not as big as Marion's, but she did end up solving the murder in a sense. I also admire how Lila would not listen to what anyone said about how Norman's mother was dead becase she trusted what Arbogast said. Also, she was brave going into the house on her own an deserves some type of medal for her courage.

Rating: 5 out of 10

I can't say i liked the movie and I can't say I hated it. I disliked the movie because it wasn't scary. If its supposed to be a scary movie, make it that way. But, what I did like was how it always kept you on your toes wondering who was the killer and when it would happen. I really like the twist on how Norman Bates and his mother were the same person. I was curious if he was just covering up her death. Turns out she was dead and he was so psycho that he took out her body and preserved it so they could always be together. I would not watch this movie again, but I would reccomend seeing it at least once.

Ben-Hur

"Peace! Love and peace. Do you think I don't long for them as you do? Where do you see them?" Ben Hur is right, there is no peace and yet we yern for it. Ben-Hur was a man who believed in peace until he was betrayed and his family was seperated. Ben-Hur was a classic movie, but it never made me want to pay attention. The story line, at first, was good. But, as it went on it dragged on and i eventually lost interest. The best part about this movie were the stunt doubles; that I would pay attention too.

Ben-Hur was supposed to be the protagonist of the story. But, too me, he seemed like the antagonist. He was supposed to be this "just" and "right" man. Instead, he gave me the vibe that all he wanted was revenge/vengeance until he received what he wanted. Ben-Hur at the beginning of the movie was this kind, gentle man who wanted only to promote peace and lead by example. When the accident happens and he is sold into slavery. He makes himself a promise to get his vengence on Mesalla and he will succeed at any cost. Does this sound like a "just" and "righteous" man? Not, to me. He contridicts himself and to me causes more problems then he does solve them. He kills his best friend and he betrays his new "father" by not becoming a Roman. The only thing he did right in the movie was by giving water to Jesus so he could drink. Again, Ben-Hur is the antagonist, not the protagonist.

Esther is a women who longs for love, but she will not receive it from Ben-Hur. When her father asks Ben-Hur if she can be wed, Ben-Hur tempts and flirts with her in hoping she will stay. She is a fool to believe that Ben-Hur will love her when all he wants is revenge on Mesalla. He almost kills her when he finds out that she was hiding the where abouts of his mother and sister. To me, if I was Esther, I would feel betrayed because he does not understand why they don't want him to see them. Esther is a fool and she will never find love.

Rating- 3 out of 10

Overall, this movie was a bit of a let down for me after hearing all the hype about winning the academy awards. I feel the only reason they earned these awards were beacause of the stunt doubles and the amount of people they had to use for their cast. The story line was vague and was very slow throughout the movie. Also, I feel the story of Jesus in the movie was somewhat just thrown in. He has a minor role in the movie and really only mattered at the end of the story line. Honestly, the movie could have been made without the role. What really bothered me was the charriot scenes. It is supposed to be an upbeat scene, but they made it very slow and most of the time all I seen was horses running around a track. Just like Gone with the Wind, this may have been a classic in the day, but now it would fail miserably.

Gone With the Wind

"No, I don't think I will kiss you, although you need kissing, badly. That's what's wrong with you. You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knows how." Is Rhett Butler a fool or is he that terribly in love with Scarlett he couldn't see past her foolish ways? This movie was pretty straight forward with questions that viewers had being answered. As for me, I was not satisfied. This movie was by far was not a classic for me. It was slow, somewhat confusing, and the deaths (even though it was an old movie) were poorly executed.

Gone with the Wind movie poster

Scarlett was at the beginning and end of the movie was by far one of my least favorite characters. She was a snob who was never satisfied witih her life so she had to ruin others in order to prosper and get what she wanted. I find it repulsive how she has every guy in town rapped around her finger and she wants the one man she cannot have. Scarlett is willing to backstab Melony in order to steal Ashley. She is willing to backstab her own blood (sister) and take away her man in order to make money for her own gain and keep her terra. Even though I find Scarlett repulsive and crude, I cannot help but to commend her on her strength to carry her family through the hard times. She was not kind in her methods, but she always found a way to prosper. So in that respect, I do like Scarlett.

Melony is one of my favorite characters of the movie. She is not a major, major role in the movie, but she plays a big part. Melony was one of the kindest people out of everyone in the movie. She always turned the other cheek when Scarlett would backstab her. I respect Melony in her faith and trust in Ashley. I believe she knew that Scarlett was trying to flirt with Ashley, but she trusted Ashley and knew he would not have an affair with Scarlett.

Rhett, out of all the characters, was by far my favorite. At first, he seemed like a brute and a man who didn't care for anyone but himself. But, as the movie goes on, you can figure out that he is starting to fall for Scarlett and her charm. What made Rhett so awesome was he would never "fall" for Scarlett's charm. He was able to read Scarlett and know if she was flirting or if she was actually wanting to be with him. I really started to like him when he finally opened his heart to Scarlett and confessed his love for her; and when they have their child, he finally becomes a soft-hearted man. He had so much love for Scarlett and Bonnie. He was willing to give up his daughter to Scarlett in order for Bonnie to be happy. That takes a lot of pride and courage to do after all the arguements they get into.

Overall rating: 6 out of 10

I would give this film an overall rating a six. During this time, I can definitely see how this would be a classic. The features, actors, and overall screen play was outstanding back in the day. If you were to put this movie in today's society, it would be a total fail. The story line was good, but it was dragged on for far too long. I, and many others in the class, lost interest in many parts and it was hard to keep myself in it. The ending was creative, but yet again, they made you think about it and dragged it on even after the movie was over. Again, great movie at a few moments, bad the rest.
